Case interview at APL Logistics Pte., Ltd

On 2 June 2026, students from Automation & Supply Chain Systems Engineering visited APL Logistics Pte., Ltd as part of an industry learning experience. During the meeting, our students conducted an interview with the Human Resources team to gain insights into the company’s operations, workplace culture, recruitment process and the career opportunities open to graduates in the logistics industry.

About the host

A global supply chain operator, working from Phnom Penh

APL Logistics Pte., Ltd is an international supply chain services provider and a member of the KWE Group, with a branch operating in Phnom Penh. The company handles freight forwarding, customs work, warehousing and the documentation that moves goods between Cambodian factories and overseas customers β€” the practical end of the supply chains our students study in the classroom.

For an SCA audience the value of the visit was in seeing how a service organisation of this kind is actually staffed and run: who does what, how people are recruited into the industry, and what the company expects from someone joining it in their first year.

The case interview

Four things our students asked the HR team about

01
Operations

How the branch is organised day to day, which functions sit under one roof, and how a shipment moves through the company from enquiry to delivery.

02
Workplace culture

How teams work together across departments, how information is shared, and what behaviour the company rewards in its people.

03
Recruitment process

How the HR team finds and selects candidates, what the interview stages look like, and which qualities carry weight for an entry-level applicant.

04
Career opportunities

Where a graduate can start in the logistics industry, how roles develop over time, and what the company looks for when it promotes from within.

Around the table with the HR team

The interview was held in the company’s meeting room, with students putting their questions directly to the HR team and following up on the answers. Meeting the people who do the hiring β€” rather than reading a job advertisement β€” gave the group a clearer picture of what the industry actually asks for.

Key takeaways

What the students were told to work on

Keep learning and adapting

New technologies and new skills arrive faster than any single course can cover. The people who stay useful are the ones who keep picking them up.

Think innovatively

Look for better ways to do the work rather than repeating the existing method. Improvement is expected of everyone, not only of managers.

Build teamwork and communication

Logistics runs on handovers between people and departments. Strong teamwork and clear communication matter as much as technical knowledge.

Appreciation

On behalf of SCA, we would like to express our sincere appreciation to Mr. Korn Kongkea for a warm welcome and for sharing valuable insight into real-world business operations at APL Logistics.
