Congratulations

From a classroom idea to an IEEE paper

Kong Sovannpanha, a student of the Department of Automation & Supply Chain Systems Engineering, presented her work at the 4th IEEE Technology and Engineering Management Society Conference: Asia-Pacific (TEMSCON-ASPAC 2025), held from 14 to 16 September 2025 in Bangkok, Thailand.

Her paper appeared in Track 4 — Entrepreneurship, Business Models and SocioEconomic Impacts, and the full text has since been indexed on IEEE Xplore, placing the work of an ASCSE undergraduate alongside research from universities across the Asia-Pacific region.

Big congratulations to Kong Sovannpanha and to the amazing co-authors for their hard work and persistence.

About the Study

How logistics firms build and keep their people

The paper develops a comprehensive framework for Human Resource Management (HRM) in the logistics industry. Using qualitative interviews with three logistics firms — a medium-sized firm, a large firm, and a conglomerate — it compares how each size of organisation recruits, trains, retains and rewards its workforce, then draws out the practices that travel well across all three.

01
Recruitment & selection
Medium-sized firms rely largely on social-media advertising and shortlisting, while larger firms run systematic processes and partner with education centres to reach highly capable students.
02
Training & development
From workshop attendance at the smaller firm to on-the-job training, classroom sessions, e-learning, language and compliance training, plus job rotation, in the larger organisations.
03
Retention & compensation
KPI-based performance review and promotion, career development, work–life balance, competitive salaries and bonuses, health and retirement benefits, and regular benefit reviews.
Key takeaway

Top management in logistics firms should (1) put a systematic HRM process in place, and (2) match HRM practices to the size and structure of the organisation — there is no single set of practices that fits every firm.
