Guest Lecture Cloud Computing Security: Past, Present and Future

Dr. Ryan Ko is a Researcher in HP Labs' Cloud and Security Lab and serves on the Board of Directors of Cloud Security Alliance (CSA) Singapore as Director of Research. With CSA, he is the founder and co-chair of the Singapore-Silicon Valley led Cloud Data Governance working group. At HP Labs, he is leading the TrustCloud project, pioneers behind end-to-end data tracing in clouds and cloud data provenance. His work was recently featured in HP Labs Annual Report 2011 for global and social impact. Within the academic community, Dr. Ko serves as the Assoc. Editor of journals such as Wiley's Security and Communication Networks Journal and the International Journal of Cloud Applications and Computing. Dr Ko is also founder/ co-chair of the IEEE Symposium on Trust and Security in Cloud Computing (TSCloud) and program committee member of several academic conferences, including the top-tier IEEE TrustCom, IEEE ICPADS, ICSOC and IEEE Service Cup.
He has published extensively in top conferences in cloud computing and service computing. A recent work on visualizing large linked data sets won him the Best Paper Award in a workshop in WWW 2011. During his PhD in Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, Ko achieved the A*STAR SIMTech's Best Student Award 2009. His PhD work, Genesis+BOWL, clinched the top prize of the 4th IEEE Service Cup at Los Angeles, CA in 2009. Prior to HP Labs and his PhD, Ko founded two startups, and was previously a systems engineer with Micron. Dr. Ko is an active volunteer, HP.com blogger and regularly speaks on Cloud Security in USA and Asia Pacific. He holds two international patents and is a member of the IEEE, ACM and AAAI.
