By: Information Technology Center

Prof. Dr. Alexander Schill, who is a chair for computer networks and was elected twice as a dean at Dresden University of Technology, will provide special lecture at IT center on mobile communication networks and mobile computing on 9th to 10th February , 2010 from 9:00AM to 11:30AM . The lecture will be focused on introducing to the principles of mobile communication networks covering over basic concepts of GSM (Global System for Mobile Communication) and its extensions. Also, UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunication System), wireless local area networks, and emerging 4th generation (4G) are elaborated. On top of these, internet protocols for mobile environments such as mobile IP and TCP are present, and mobile web application support is discussed. In addition, various mobile application platforms and product categories from areas such as databases, file systems, mail systems, and specific application domains will be included in this lecture.

He also will provide an introduction to service-oriented computing and then focuses on dedicated research issues concerning service composition. Existing concepts and standards such as service interface descriptions, service orchestration and choreography, and associated platform support are discussed. Example applications from the internet and distributed systems area serve to these aspects and to derive advanced requirements. Based on these foundations, the consideration of non-functional properties during service composition is being discussed; examples of such properties are throughput, response times, multimedia quality, or security. It is also outlined how additional characteristics such as context information in distributed systems can help to guideservice configuration. Initial results concerning design time and runtime support are presented, and future challenges towards the internet of services are pointed out with respect to ongoing project work.
