Royal University of Phnom Penh and Osaka Prefecture University successfully organized a two-day conference on Japanese-Cambodian Joint Symposium on Information Systems and Communication Technology (JCAICT) at Cambodia- Japan Cooperation Center (CJCC) of Royal University of Phnom Penh on 6th and 8th January 2011. The conference was attended by about 200 audiences, 24 foreign authors, and 10 Cambodian authors. On the first day, the opening ceremony was presided by H.E Pit Chamnan, Secretary of State and Deputy Minister of Ministry of Education Youth and Sports, H.E Chhiv Eav Lav, Rector of Royal University of Phnom Penh, and Prof. Norihisa Komoda, Osaka University. Then H.E. Moa Chakrya, Director General of Ministry of Posts and Telecommunication, delivered a keynote speech on “Cambodia’s Information and Communication Technology Development- Challenges, Strategies, and Future”. On the second day of the conference, Dr. Toshiaki Arai gave a keynote speech on “Beyond Cloud Computing – Computer Technology Now and the Future”. Finally, the closing ceremony was presided by H.E. Chun Vat, Secretary General of National Information Communication Technology Development Authority (NiDA). During the conference, the authors had a tour-study to Royal Palace, National Museum, and Wat Phnom resort on 07th January 2011.

2. Future Cooperation

Both universities plan to have a next symposium which is expected to be held in Siem Reap Province on December 2012. We also plan to do research together on potiential topics:

  2. Knowledge & transaction based domestic energy saving support system
  3. Natural Language Processing for Khmer Language
