Degree Structure
The Department of Environmental Science offers students a multi-disciplinary approach to complex environmental issues and concerns. Furthermore, in response to the markets demand for more specialized expertise capable of addressing a range of environmental problems facing Cambodia, the department has streamlined the existing curriculum into two specialized degree programs, a Pollution and Urban Environmental Studies stream (PUES) and a Natural Resources Management stream (NRM).
With limited resources, DES can only offer one specialized stream to each enrolling year. The programmes are rotated at every two years, so that students who enroll in 2010/11 and 2011/12 will study the PUES stream, those who enroll in 2012/13 until 2013/2014 will study the NRM stream. By 2014/15 the curriculum will undergo review according to the current need of the nation.
The curriculum is designed to provide students with the fundamental knowledge and experience they will need for successful employment after graduation. Many courses are designed to provide students with opportunities to implement theory in a practical way. Students of both programs will have to take at least 150 credits, at a rate of approximately 20 credits per semester. Approximately 60 % of the total credits are subjects common to both Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science streams, ensuring that all graduates from the Department of Environmental Science possess a broad understanding of their topic. All students also undertake a major group research project during their final semester, thus fulfilling the requirements for their degree.
