Introduction

The Royal University of Phnom Penh, formerly the Khmer Royal University, was founded in 1960 with five faculties. Closed from 1975-1979, the University was re-opened in 1980 as a Teacher Training College and a Foreign Language Institute (1981) with the goal of meeting the need for teachers and training in the country. In 1988, the two entities were combined to create the Phnom Penh University and in 1996, the name was changed to the Royal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP). During its history and tradition as the oldest and largest institution in Cambodia, RUPP has educated a significant number of students and these students have served the country as teachers and educational officials all over the country.

With recognition and support of the general public: national and international and the government, RUPP’s Master of Science in Physics is established. It has been specifically designed to promote Physics in Cambodia as well as to respond to the developments of sciences and technology in modern world. The development process of the Physics curriculum was participatory, i.e., incorporating inputs from a wide variety of potential stakeholders were considered for the design of curriculum. First, it has been drafted by Faculty of Science, RUPP and then it has been refined through technical meetings attended by RUPP’s Physicists and international academics.

Master of Science in Physics Program has been financially and technically supported by International Science Program (ISP), UPPSALA University. The majority of the courses are taught by experienced professors from Hanoi National University of Education, Vietnam, as well as professors from University of Freiburg, Germany, and from University of Rajasthan, India, and from Institute Teknologi Bandung (ITB), Indonesia.
