Graduate School of Science Advances Outcome-Based Education for PhD Programs in Physics and Chemistry through HEIP-2
Phnom Penh, Cambodia — The Graduate School of Science (GSS) at the Royal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP) is advancing the implementation of the FutureFit Educational Framework based on Outcome-Based Education (OBE) for its PhD Program in Physics and PhD Program in Chemistry under the Second Higher Education Improvement Project (HEIP-2).
The initiative aims to strengthen doctoral education by aligning program design, learning outcomes, curriculum delivery, and assessment with international standards and Cambodia’s development priorities. Through the OBE approach, the programs focus on the knowledge, skills, and competencies that graduates are expected to achieve, ensuring that doctoral students are well prepared for careers in research, academia, industry, and innovation.
The FutureFit framework emphasizes research excellence, critical thinking, scientific communication, interdisciplinary collaboration, ethical leadership, and societal impact. Faculty members from both programs have been actively engaged in defining program learning outcomes, mapping curricula, and establishing continuous quality improvement mechanisms.
For the PhD Program in Physics, the framework supports the development of advanced research capabilities in areas such as materials science, energy, environmental studies, and emerging technologies. The PhD Program in Chemistry focuses on producing innovative researchers equipped to address challenges in chemical sciences, materials, environmental sustainability, and related fields, where the faculty members specifically focus on analytical chemistry, sensors and devices, printed flexible electronics, nanomaterials and applications, polymer materials and applications.
The implementation of OBE through HEIP-2 reflects RUPP’s commitment to enhancing the quality and international competitiveness of graduate education while preparing future scientific leaders to contribute to Cambodia’s sustainable development and knowledge-based economy.
